Confused about creating DiVX

Hi,
I bought a nice Creative Labs mp3 player that has the capacity to store and play movies in multiple formats, like DiVX, mpeg, etc..
Im not a total newby about DVD structure and converting, I have done some reading and bought the TEMPGEnc software.
But I havent used it to create an mpeg file from a full DVD becasue I got somewhat confused and decided to try DiVX thinking it might be an easier process.
I then found that it isnt any easier.
I was wondering if theres an easy guide to explain how to take the multiple DVD files and create one simple DiVX or mpeg file with all the menus.
Basically could someone recommend a guide that is simple to understand.
Gee, guess I am sounding like a newby!!!

DVD Author 3?
Do you mean create a DivX compilation with menu's or a DVD with Menus.
DivX with menu's is, I think, referring to DivX Ultra, for which you need a compliant standalone player.
