hi all

Could you tell me which card is best for my pc please. my pc can take either.

First card is NVIDIA 8600 GTS 256mb GPU speed 725mhz Memory speed 2200mhz 32 pipelines.

2nd- ATI SAPPHIRE X1950 PRO 512MB GPU speed 580mhz Memory speed 1400mhz 36 pipelines.

Do i go for the speedy card or the card with more memory?

The X1950 Pro I believe is faster, despite the lower clock speeds.

i think i'll go for the NVIDIA as others have been saying its more up to date than the sapphire card as its Directx 10 ready. plus the price of the nvidia is more than the sapphire so i guess its a better card?

I dont think i could wait to get the 8800, i'll go for something cheaper that will do the job.

How would the x1950 pro run faster even though its slower spec than the nvidia?

Lower mhz does not mean lower speed, it's all down to the architecture. There are 1.8Ghz core 2 Duo CPUs out there that best the 3.4Ghz Pentium Ds, simply because they're better designs.
This is how the X1950 Pro can outperform the 8600GTS. Directx10 support is at the moment pointless, since most DX9 cards will be able to run DX10 anyway, and since DX10 isn't even being used yet.

The thing about the 8600 GTS is that, sure, it supports DX10, but when DX10 games come out it wont be good enough to run them at good settings anyway.

Precisely. There are DX9 games my X1900XT struggles with above low detail, and that's better than an 8600GTS.
