i have a freecomdvd+/-rw4j dvd burner and it uses roxio dvd max. the problem is it is quite old and it will not burn in dvd-rom mode so is there anyway to make it so it does?

here is your burner.

the latest firmware update was in 2004! All the new media from 8x on up won't work in your burner! There is no cure for this. You only option if you want to burn DVDs: buy a new burner! many members love the Lite-on burners. check around here and do a search and you will see that many members love their Lite-On drives! And you can pick them up cheap:

what IHOE said is the best thing for you. just get a new drive. as he said they are cheap right now and the liteons are great drives. but from the few people i know that have that 20x drive wish they got the 18x or even the 16x liteon instead. i myself have both the 18x and 16x and they are awsome..
