I just finished a new custom build, and to my surprise the CPU (Core 2 Duo E6320) was running at 20 celsius, and after overclocking it to 2.3GHz (from 1.8) it went to 22 celsius. This when up to 27 after installing windows vista but still very cold!
I am using the stock cooler w/ stock paste.
I have done a few other builds with the same CPU, but most are at 38. Does anyone know why this one is so cold?
I was going to put a zalman cooler on it with artic silver but i guess it dont really need to.

Download a program called coretemp and see what the temperatures of the cores are. If they're more than 45 or so, I think those readings are a bit fishy.

well after overclocking to 2.52GHz i had to up the voltage, my temps went up a lot and after running coretemp it says they are 35
i also took out a fan so that added to the heat (i am replacing it later)

The cores are 35? I find that hard to believe. Run a stress test or game for half an hour and then say what the coretemps are. At 3Ghz & 1.42V, mine get to around 74C on low speed, 68C on high speed.

I will do that using othors. I think it will go up alot now because I moved the computer upstairs, its alot hotter up here.
You keep your cpu at 74????!!!

No, my coretemp is 74. The temperature inside the CPU itself is a lot hotter than the figure your motherboard provides. That's what I'm after, not your normal CPU temperature. My normal temperature was 52 at low speed, 47 at high.

its up to 71 now (w/no case fan) and the cpu fan is going at 800RPM so its in silent mode.
how far can it go up to?

See the figure marked 'TJunction', that's the max safe temperature. It's 85 for some Core 2 Duos, 100 for others.
Ugh, a 7300LE? Why would you inflict that on anybody? :P

Ya it says 85.
If i want to get a little more out of it (2.7Ghz) should i add artic silver and a zalman CPU cooler? I can get the 9500 for $40.00
I know i dont need the extra 180MHz, but its just for fun

its not a gaming PC, and it was only $50.00 + it works great for things the person will be doing (looking a pictures, making dvds and photo slide shows, browsing the net)

If you want more mhz then yes, that will do the trick. I do have to wonder why you're overclocking an office pc this seriously!

just for fun, its for a family friend so them dont mind if I try a few things out with it + i have to keep it here for a few days
I just got it to 373*7=2611GHz (40% OC) I used artic silver this time. Its stable still.

do you think i can get it any higer with out raising the voltage any more? This is the first big OC i have ever done so i am not the best. Would you say 40% is good for a first time? or did you get more?

My motherboard needs a lot of voltage adjustment to get the speed up, I think my chipset is a bit dodgy, but I got to 2.4Ghz (33%) before I had to up the voltage. I'm running at 3Ghz (67%) and upped from 1.325V to 1.425V. Chipset's upped from 1.21V to 1.56V.
