My old computer I built one day turned off by itself, I was shocked to see this but it would never turn back on again. Well I figured it was the motherboard or the Powersupply so I replaced both it turn on for a Second and as soon as I try to reboot it, It turned off. I was confused I cant figure out why it is doing that. Well I decided just to buy a cheap computer and use it. So I bought a gateway 5432 it worked fine I tried to put my Video card from my old computer into this one but it didnt turn on or work. I think it was because it needed more power then 300watts power supply any other suggestion about that??

So I said forget it I upgraded the VIDEO Card to a EVGA 8800GT OC and gave it a brand new PowerSupply. It was running great until this morning, I played a game then let my nephew on it. Well after a hour I logged off the game and I notice that the Vista was realy sluggish after that. So I surf the web for only 5mins then I turned off the Computer and went to sleep. I woke up and went to go check my email, the Blue light indicated it was powering but really there was no power going to it, I looked in the Back and the Computer fan and the powersupply fan was not working at all. So I unplugged the Cord and then plugged it back in and this time the blue light when I hit the power button did turn on. So I got the original powersupply and hooked up the 20pin and the 4 pin and the Computer still didnt turn on. I think my cheap power burned my mother? what do all of you think? do you think anything else could be damaged as well?

Wow, what a saga. Buy a new proper Power supply like an Enermax or Corsair, and hook it up to the PC. The other PSU sounds dodgy, and the old one won't power an 8800 GPU. If the PC doesn't work with the new PSU, then you may need to replace the motherboard.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I tried it with another power supply but I think that power supply is burnt out as well. I am trying to buy a proper power supply. This computer isnt even that old at all.

It doesn't matter, cheap power supplies can burn out the day you buy them, and they can often take other hardware with them. Most of us learn that the hard way. My biggest aim here at aD is to prevent that!

Do you think it took my motherboard to the afterlife. What about the Video card? Or processor? I really think it was my powersupply as well. Is it possible for a power supply to burn out 2 Motherboards?

Anything's possible in that situation, you'll just have to see what still works.

I doubt the warranty's valid, and for this very reason. It's not necessarily their workmanship that's at fault, it's yours for putting in a powerful graphics card without changing the power supply. You may be able to get away with handing it back as it was new, but most PCs built by Hp, Dell, Gateway etc. have Case intrusion sensors so they know when you've been messing around.

You got lucky there. Remember this for next time!
Oh, and is this the PC with an 8800GTS? Be careful with a 300W PSU. When you play games it'll probably crash because there's not enough power.

Yeah that 580watt one I bought broke only in a few days. I have to spend some money to get a power supply that wont break. Do you think my Video card is damaged? I guess the cheap power supply isnt that strong at all.

Far from it. I'd recommend the 520W Corsair HX.

1. I bought a gateway 5432 also.
2. I bought it in April.
3. I am having problems burning DVD's and just recently it has begun to turn off on its own.
4. Sometimes when I go to open two or 4 picture files it says I do not have enough memory and that I should try closing some applications.

Vista Home Premium
DVD dual layer type burner
The only thing I upgraded on it was a hard drive (above line # 3 and # 4 is the reason I got the Hard drive and extra memory)
2 Gb of Ram
PVR-150 TV tuner

Have you had any luck?

I have used Macafee and Windows One Live with the same problems.

Seems that I can not burn printable DVD's from the Windows Media Center either.

There has to be something I am overlooking.

Well it's having trouble recognising the memory you've got in there, does the computer recognise it as 2GB?

Since whookidd had issues with a power supply, maybe you would too. Since you too have upgraded components, Gateway may be reluctant to warranty the PC, so I'd recommend you also buy the Corsair power supply, or another good brand. (Note: Cheap very rarely means good, so don't go cheap on this one!)

Okay I got it to work correctly.

1. Macafee No Luck

2. Microsoft No luck

3. Spybot No Luck

4. Adware No Luck (crap! it was suppose to be Ad-Aware)

5. Ad-Aware Found 6 trojans

6. Easy Cleaner by Tony Artis Founs alot of problems in the registry and extra crap that should never be there

So to sum it all up, after I did number 5 and 6 I can burn straight to a Printable DVD Disc with NO PROBLEMS.

I still do not know what it was that was screwing it all up to begin with, But it is fixed.
