Do I understand correctly: You have burned audio CDs from mp3 files that had a size of 3 MB/Song; and now you want to rip these CDs to mp3 again?
This is transcoding/re-encoding and decreases quality compared to encoding 1x from the original.

Anyway ...

34MB/song sounds like uncompressed PCM (.wav)
Probably you haven't set up EAC/Lame correctly. A guide: http://www.cd-rw.org/articles/archive/mydeneaclame.cfm

i appreciate you attempting to aid me in my troubles. however i did not understand your solution to fixing my problem. when i start the ripping process i click on the mp3 icon on the left on the EAC program. is there more to it? the first cd i ever ripped using this program (not too long ago) was just fine.

any additional help you can give me?
thanks

EAC needs to know what lame to use (.exe or .dll), where it can find it and what encoding settings to use. You can set these things up in EAC compression options. All details you need are in the guide I linked to.

If it worked before - fine. The only way I see for you to find out what's wrong is to check EAC's settings (e.g. using the guide).

If you have specific questions feel free to ask.
