I have a niece that is quite rough with her dvd's. I make back-up copies and keep the originals in my library, because I usually need to use them again. Right now I've been trying to back up "Hannah Montana: Livin the Rock Star Life", but I'm having no success. I've tried magic dvd ripper, ripit4me, and anydvd with no luck. Anybody got any suggestions? The dvd I'm trying to back-up is brand new.

hate to say it, if none of those work on that movie my guess is you have a bad press on the original disc.

paiger651 as you would see if you were to read i did not say anything about the poster backing up the dvd that ne owned, just when he said (Guess I'll see if I can rent another copy from the video store and go from there) that is not allowed here at afterdawn!

@rdmercer

The way I understood it was the original poster does own the movie and since he can't get his copy backed up he is going to go rent it instead of returning his to the store for an exchange. I see no problem with renting a movie to do your backup if you already own the movie.

copying rental movies are illegal.period this is a rule on the afterdawn/dvdxcopy site Most places(states or countries) allow you to have 1 backup of every original you own. So unless this is a copy of a home movie,or something of that nature,copying a copy is illegal or a rental movie,and not allowed to be discussed on this forum.

oh really? I searched the rules and couldn't find that. What is the difference if you own a movie and back it up or rent a movie and back it up but you also own it?? What makes one more illegal than the other? Who could enforce this? The guy bought and paid for the original movie...

First of all, I'm sorry for all the trouble I've caused here. So this is what I did. I brought the movie back to the store and asked for another copy. They didn't have one. So I'll wait until they call to tell me it has arrived. I'll save money too, by not having to pay a rental fee. I explained it to my niece and she still loves me so I hope all is right with the universe. Thanks again for your help, and once again, sorry for the troubles I may have caused.

and although it does not specifically say so in that thread I think the intended point was about members going and renting movies to copy without purchasing the original. It kind of comes down to a common sense thing.
