I know that all I have to do for Nero burning rom is to select DVD-ROM and every time I use DVD-ROM it automatically will be set to this book type. However, when I use recode via nero 7 AEC changer it seems that I have to select DVD-ROM every time, otherwise the default setting stays on automatic for booktyping. So, how do I make DVD-ROM my default book type in recode 2? (Using Nero 7 Premium)

Hi klemperal
Having it set to automatic should 'automatically' booktype +R discs.
Does for me w/ Nero 7.

What's the make and model of your burner?

Hey Binkie,
I'm using a Sony DVD RW DRU 710A with BYX5 firmware. I'm guessing that this "automatic" booktyping is for standard DVD-R, DVD+R booktype--not DVD-ROM booktype. I got a program called DVD identifier, that can ID booktyping among other things, and checked 3 disks on it all burned with Nero; a DVD-R auto for booktype, a DVD+R auto for booktype, and finally a DVD+R with DVD-ROM as the preferred booktype. I had figured that both DVD+r media would show up as DVD-Rom since nero "booktypes automatically." The way it went was the auto DVD-R was booktyped DVD-R, the auto DVD+R was book typed DVD+R and the DVD+R I set for DVD-ROM showed up as DVD-ROM. Only after selecting DVD-ROM will it booktype DVD-Rom. Still, I'm curious how to auto enable it to do so for recode 2.

The automatic means that Nero will booktype +R discs to DVD-Rom 'automatically'. -R discs can't be booktyped though.

But I have the same thing happen to me with an older LiteOn - a little older than yours (your sony is an oem LiteOn SOHW-1633S if you didn't know).
Nero will automatically booktype the +R's to DVD-Rom on the newer LiteOn's but not the older one. I have to set it every time I use a +R disc w/ it.
I'm thinking that may be the case with you too.

Thanks for the replies and information Binkie. It just seems silly that for recode in particular it won't save the burn settings to DVD-ROM, but in Nero burning Rom it will. I wish there was a way to change that, but if not no big deal. By the way, is there any good reason to change the name of my burner from Sony to LiteOn? I heard about people doing that for my burner model a while back and wasn't sure if there were any practical reasons.

Yeah it is a bit silly - a pain actually cause I forget to change sometimes :)

The firmware is newer for the LiteOn then the Sony so you might get better support for some different media. Might have better support for dual layer media too.
The cross flash to the LiteOn is pretty simple. You would just use the patched BSOY for the LiteOn-SOHW1633S. You can get it here
