Hello !

First off allow me to apologize if I posted in the wrong place I wasnt sure where to go. I have a IBM Thinkpad T21 with the DVD ROM CDR combo drive. It has worked flawlessly until recently and every disc I burn with nero or any other software says that burning was complete yet when I try to read the finished disc in the same drive the drive icon in my computer only reads "CDR" with a CD in the drive and if the drive is empty it reads correctly as a "dvd cdrw drive" and the auto play feature kicks in to ask me if I want to add files to this disc because its blank??

Its not blank , I can walk over to my desktop, pop the disc in the drive and boom my files are readily available to me. Is there a driver update or maybe a xp tweak for this drive its a MATSHITA UJDA 720 DVD/CDRW.

IBM'S site has a vague list of drivers and the cd drive is not one of them .........

ANY help would be great !

Thank You for Your Time

Hey, yes you did get the right category to podst your problem and i hate to inform you, but it sounds like your drive is going bad. If it can burn thats one things but if its having trouble reading its own disc it burned i would say its time to replace the drive casue hardware doesnt just stop doing that and then have a patch that fixes it. its simply luck that it happen to break and still be able to burn. go on ebay and try and find a replacement drive.

Do you play games on your laptop? If so, your drive may have been corrupted with the Starforce protection system. It can be solved, but you'll have to reformat your hard disk and reinstall windows, then change the firmware on your CD drive.
