i'm use Aimersoft ripper to rip Lord of the Rings on my computer in MPEG4 format for AppleTV. However, becasue the movie is split into 2 DVDs, I'm wondering if there is a way I can easily combine the two movies into one?

You can try VirtualDub - I use it to merge avi's - I think it supports mpeg4. Can't hurt to try it - it free :) Plus if it can merge the mpeg4's it's pretty fast.
