Hi there i was wondering if anyone could help me with a proplem i've had recently.(Im quite new to fixing PC hardware)
I bought a new RAM memory card for my pc and couldnt get it to start, i kept getting a constnant bleep. After some research i found out that the card was in wrong, so i got it working. Then i found out id got the cards mixed up and put in the wrong one lol so i shut my pc down and went to replace it.
Once i fitted them i switched my pc on and got an odd burning smell?? Since then, when i switch the pc on it looks just normal (the power button is on, the fan at the back is on) but i get nothing on the screen?? And the screen is also definately on. Any ideas on whats wrong??

Thanks in advance
The odd burning smell is not a good thing. You may have fried your RAM, your motherboard, or both.
Doesn't sound good. You can try any memory slots that you haven't used on stick at a time but smoke while inserting a component usually means a burned motherboard.
Quote:so if ive tried all the slots with both cards then its my motherboard?
Think of it as an opportunity for an upgrade. I still remember the joyous moment that my wife killed my old P4PE by cracking the AGP port. It would still work with a PCI card but who wants old technology? I upgraded and was never happier.;)
