Desperate help with linksys WRT54GC router

Im trying to setup a router to connect my other pc which is not on the internet to my pc that is on the internet, and also connect my psp to it. Im on blueyonder.co.uk
When I start the setup it says that it cannot find the router and to check all cables are in properly, but I know for a fact ive put them in properly because I got it working before but got stuck later on because it was saying it could not find an internet connection, then I realised I needed a network adapter. So I bought a network adapter (linksys WUSB11) and installed it and now it acts as if I haven't connect the router properly. Its not the adapter because I got past that stage when I installed the adapter but my pc restarted its self ( does that sometimes ) but I wasn't in the middle of anything so its not like it was half way through installing something.
I've restarted, tried it on different users and even did a system restore to yesterday when the problem wasn't happening.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Could you post the make/model of the router you have.

The post that AXT made should be correct.
But if your using internet explorer 7 sometimes your unable to connect because of the digestauth security flaw. Firefox always has worked perfectly for connecting to various routers for me, give that a try.
On the other hand when you eventually get the login box come up and the above login details dont work then heres some more logins that could work. But it should work as thats the default login details that the manufacturer set.
Where ive left it blank means dont enter anything.

I tried firefox but I get 'the connection was reset' message.
But even if I do manage to get to this page somehow, will it be able to do anything? because I won't be able to configure the router if it isn't installed on the computer will I?
I can't install it because on the setup it acts as though it isnt connected to the computer, when I know for sure I have it connected right. My friend is going to let me have his old router so if he remembers to bring it today, i'll try that and hopefully it will work. I'll have wasted money on a useless router but at least i'll know the problem isn't my computer. I'll let you know the results when I try it, I dont think its as good as this router though but its good of him to give it me for free.

Ok Im sure the problem is with my computer. I tried my friends router which is a belkin wireless-g router model - F5D7230-4
I installed the router and it worked fine, I was able to use the internet with it, but then after about 5 minutes the internet connection goes, and the router has one green power light and one orange light. If I unplug it and plug it back in it works for about 20 seconds then the same, all the lights turn off then one green and one orange come on.
I have no idea how to fix this problem, and would appreciate any help. Im guessing its probably some options are disabled or something or I need some kind of patch.

It looks like the belkin isnt setup for your isp, as it may be setup for your friends isp username / password. So their router maybe having the exact same problem with the disconnections.
If it is setup with your isp details then it maybe a problem on your broadband line.

jazbebies, router has nothing to do with isp just the modem.
fatleon, is the router attached to the modem then the computers & psp to the router? are you using straight thru net cables or crossover cables? what windows are on the computers?

Well some of us have routers with built in modems so therefore we have to configure the router in order to set the isp details. Not all of us have the luxury of cable broadband.

thats true i was on blueyonder for a while but the company got changed to virginmedia which you can have cable or dsl connection ive changed to dsl now cos i had problems with connection,
something to do with cables under the road so ive got a router with modem built in which suits me just fine
to the geezer with the problem the pc with the problem is it to the router with a cable or wifi?

It has the router to the modem to the computer using normal cables, im on blueyonder (now virgin media) and both pcs have windows xp.
See once I get it set up so the internet can run through the router I can just put my wireless adapter on the other computer cant I?
but I need the internet to be able to run through the router first.

Can i ask the cable coming from the modem is it connected to the "wan" port on the router?
If no then it should be connected. if yes then i would try turning off both the modem & router with the cable still attached so that when you turn them both back on, the router can refresh the connection of the modems mac address and hopefully link up.
You should be using a cable also to connect the routers "lan" port to your computers network port after about a minute you've turn on both of them.

fatleon, you got the router & modem in reverse. data cable whether dsl or cable goes into the modem. then a network cable goes from the modem to the router wan port. from the router the other net cables from port 1 & on goes to the pc's netcard port. does that router have an antenna on it?

Ha ha ha im so confused :D
surely I have it connected right if the internet worked for a bit?
what i did was I disconnected the internet cable (sorry dont know the name, lan cable is it?) from the back of the pc and put it into the only green port on the router as my router booklet instructs, then I use the other blue cable provided and insert one end into the router and one into the slot on the pc where I just removed the other one, It doesnt mention anything about removing anything from the modem.
I'll try connecting and rebooting both modem and router and see if anything happens but I doubt it.

Even im confused here lol
I'll try to explain it best i can.
So the items you should have are as follows:-
Modem
Router
2 x Network Cables.
Now the setup you should have is this:-
The modems network port should be connected to the routers "blue" network port with one of the network cables ok.
Then with the remaining network cable you have, you must connect that to the "green" port of the router then the other end into your computers network port.
You say that the internet worked for a bit, well was it with the above setup that it worked before?

Yes thats right, apart from the colours are the other way around, I have 4 blue ports on the router where a blue cable goes in one of the 4 and the other end into the pc's lan port, then that lan cable I took out goes into the one green port on the router. :D
I tried turning both modem and router off then on but the same thing, router comes on then goes off in 5 minutes then every other time I turn it off and on it disconnects after 10-15 seconds.
Oh yeah and the router does have an antenna on it, I always put it straight up at a 90 degree angle.

Having 4 blue ports on a router would be a miracle, as you can see from the pic below its one blue and 4 green.

To save the hassle on here i would contact your isp, they will guide you through the process step by step, maybe theres a hardware failure somewhere, their service is at fault or simply it isnt setup correctly.
I'd think you would get further with the above suggestion, as a voice conversation would be more ideal for you.
If you get it solved please post as it helps others who have the same and can search for it.

Oh yeah I see what you mean, but I was talking about the belkin one my friend gave me, that has 4 blue and one green. I've gave up on that linksys one now the pc acts as if its invisible or something.
Yeah I will contact my ISP, but I doubt they'll be able to help, they will probably offer me a second internet connection for the other pc instead or something, which im not gonna do.
I'll be sure to post back if I get any success but dont hold your breath! I never have any luck with these type of things.
