Ok, well just so you know swapping scripts as you call it, won't help play backups if that is what you are thinking.
You either need to have a modded ps2, either by chip or using Swap Magic Disks. You can also have an internal hard drive on PS2 V12 and under or a USB hard drive on any ps2.
On the USB drive, one does change the DNAS codes/or IOPRP from other disks to get them too work.
Or swapping DNAS codes to play online with backups.

Is that kind of what you are thinking is to follow what your friend is doing to play backups.

I have modded disc that I was told how to make. Hacking a game is not easy. You will have to spend a lot of time ith a hex editor and know what your looking at and trying to replace. I have a socom mod disc, guitar hero mod disc, and a san andreas mod disc. All three of those I followed an idiot proof guide and it still wasn't easy.
