Media Center with Vista 32 crashing

I am running Vista Home Premium 32bt. WHen I try to watch a video, in .avi format, using Media Center it crashes. It says 'MC has stopped working" and crashes. I don't know why this is, it seems ok to listen to music just not videos.

I heard somewhere that MC is a 64 bit program, could taht be it? I'd rather not go 64 bit because of the lack of driver support though.

And I don't know if this is related but when I even try to open the folder that has those .avi files I get a pop up that says "COM surrogate has stopped working", it will continually pop up until I press cancel.
