Dear All,
My wife wants me to code a VCD containing a slide show with background music for her family who own a VCD player only. I prepared the slideshow with Nero Vision 4.9.7.2 and burned it to a CD in Video CD format as I assumed.
When I put the ready VCD into my Sony VCD player and afterwards into my Philips DVD/VCD player the VCD did not work. The Sony player skipped the VCD and went to the next VCD inserted and the Philips player started first with heavy voice problems and stopped after a while and did not continue. Nero ShowTime was able to play the complete VCD.
I investigated now the VCD and recognized that the .DAT MPEG1 file was inserted into the directory "SEGMENT". All my commercially bought VCDs (more than 50 in my possession) show .DAT files only in directory "MPEGAV" at the VCD.
So I copied the .DAT file from the troubled VCD and started Nero Burning ROM. I choose VCD and put said .DAT file into "MPEGAV" as it is standard-wise done. I could play the resulting VCD with both of my VCD players.
The problem was now that the voice (originally MP3 files, added to the original slide show) was now not smoothly. There were some short dropouts in the audio voice.
So I exported the original slide show with Nero Vision as .mpg file (VCD format) and created through Nero Burning ROM another VCD with the exported Video/Audio stream. The result was unfortunately the same, voice dropouts were recognized.
Now I re-encoded the exported slide show .mpg file with TEMPGEncMPEG Editor and forced a re-encoding of the voice stream.
The resulting VCD shows within a VCD duration of 21 minutes only 4 short dropouts against 29 dropouts with the original Nero Vision coding.

My questions:
How can I get Nero Vision to provide acceptable results (Video and Audio) if VCDs are to be generated?
Why does Nero Vision insert the .DAT file obviously into the wrong directory at the VCD where the file will not b recognized by at least some video players?
Does somebody know an alternative to Nero Vision for the provisioning of VCD burning to CD?

I tried the coding with a PC under XP and under Vista. The resulting VCDs show the same problems.

The Nero "Support" told me that in case of a slde show coding to VCD with Nero Vision each single picture creates an own .DAT file at "SEGMENT". This is absolutely nonsense and not supported by the results I recognized on my generated VCDs. There was only one .DAT file in "SEGMENT" containing all 73 pictures of the slideshow, inclusively voice. "MPEGAV" was empty.
They could not explain how in my case 73 files shall operate as single .DAT files with background music.
This is again evidence, that the Nero support does not know too much about their own product.
