hi can anyone tell me why my pc just makes a beeping noise every couple of seconds when i turn it on? nothing else happens, is the motherboard dead?

How many beeps can you hear?

i makes a beep every couple of seconds that lasts a couple of seconds. i have only let it get to 3 beeps as i didnt no if it was going to go bang or not!

I see, it should be ok booting it once more to double check. You need to count from the first beep to the pause, before the next lot of beeps come.

Ok is that a continuous beep e.g. beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. or is it like, beep beep beep. ?

Ok,
It does appear to be a memory problem, so i would double check the ram to see whether they are properly inserted still. If all is ok there, then i would test the ram by using one stick at a time if you have more than one. But if you only have just the one stick then you may have to get your hands on a stick to test. If you can borrow one that would be good.
