Greetings,

Every time I try to rip a DVD, it gets anywhere from 2% complete to 30% complete before my system completely freezes. Total Kill, I have to use the reset button to get it working again. This didn't used to happen all the time (30% of the time), but I'm not remembering what changed when this all started. I've tried reformatting but now it seems as if the problem remains even after reformatting. I'm of the mind set of this being a driver issue (or a codec issue?), however I'm sure there are more things that can cause this kind of problem. I have looked into the logs, and nothing is recorded showing that there wasn't a problem.

I'm confused and baffled by this. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
snekr

Perhaps you're over heating. Try cleaning your vents....

I thought of that after searching through the forum for someone who might have had an issue close to this one. I've turned up a lot of ideas ranging from aspi drivers to the vents. I've since cleaned the inside out (a fair few dust bunnies)....I forgot how much electronics attract dust) and I've noticed a slight improvement. I've run CCleaner and that didn't seem to help much. I can rip a bit faster but I'm still not having much luck. I did have an idea that this is a problem with the encoding process, not the actual rip after I found that I was able to rip the disk completely (using dvd decrypter) placing it on my HD. Even attempts to rip (encode?) produce the same results. I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall with this problem, and I'm sure that I'm overlooking something simple. Any other ideas I might be able to try? I'm greatly appreciative to your reply, and I'll welcome any ideas.

Thanks
