I believe existing AM2 boards with recent chipsets will support it.

the high end cpu's will need a whole new motherboard to run it since they will be Socket F cpu's (FX90 and FX91) the rest will be AM2 socketed. As for the release date it won't matter because by the time they are released intel will be out with their 45nm CPU's and chances are that they will be better than the phenom's from AMD. I hope im wrong on that, i don't want AMD to sink even more.

Then look no further than the Core 2 Duo E4300 or E6420, or even cheaper than that, an Athlon64 X2 4200+. I've run pretty much every game that has high system requirements at some point (if only briefly), and with a few graphics settings turned down, it's always been achievable, with either CPU.

i'm more AMD side...yes AMD x2 4200 is good, but not good enough, and after i heard that AMD's Phenom cpu are coming out, i'm hyped up for that...but its expensive...

The Phenom X4 is a Quad Core Barcelona CPU running on a Socket AM2+ platform with HT3.0, 4x512MB L2 cache and 2MB L3 cache. The first member of the Phenom FX series of CPUs is as follows:

I'm afraid not, although if AMD are sensible they'd be priced at the same level as the Core 2 Duos. Whichever CPU is as fast as a certain Core 2 Duo will be priced similarly.

No, that was the point of my argument, when the core 2 duos came out, the processors that were similar in performance (E6300 vs 4200+) were the same price.

The sky is red here, as the sun sets, much as it has on AMD getting the performance crown back any time soon, get on with it!

But is this 45nm in the same way that AMD moved from 90nm to 65nm, or is there going to be a performance increase as well? If there is, AMD are screwed.

i think they will increase the performance...b/c what AMD did was not so wise it only lowers the elec that needs...but hey i still love AMD...Advanced Micro Device...it...sounds cool...intel sound just like intel...who cares they all great...
Really sometimes i hope both companies and work together...same with nvidia and ATI...it'll be world dominating...but there will be some disadvantages

if nVidia and ATi joined, they could charge whatever they liked, it would NOT be good for business. This is why the monopolies commission exists, to prevent businesses from growing so large they have a complete market dominance. Unfortunately Microsoft managed it all by themselves.
