Ok im trying to decide between an intel system or an amd...which one would be a better buy for mostly gaming and media, and maybe a bit of OCing, also if u have any suggestions within the same price range that would be very much appreciated.
AMD
Foxconn C51XEM2AA- 8EKRS2H Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard
XFX GeForce 8600GT 256MB XXX GDDR3 PCI Express x16
CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 520W Power Supply
Crucial Ballistix 2GB DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz Socket AM2
COOLER MASTER AQUAGATE VIVA RL-M4A-E7E1-GP Liquid Cooling System
Basically the intel machine is much the same except the cpu is an E6420 and the mobo was a MSI P6N SLI Platinum LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI

Go with the E6420, but instead use a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Motherboard, neither of the ones you've posted are that great.

also i went on newegg again and relized that with basically the same stuff i could get a q6600 instead for almost the same price after rebates so would that mobo still be good with that cpu?

Yep, a Q6600 would be superb if you can afford one, if a little unnecessary. Only go for it if you have money pouring out of your pockets, whilst it's a good value at the current price, a Dual core is all you really need. Unless it costs nothing extra, get that, but you'll really want that DS3 board rather than the MSI if you get the quad core.

its a hard choice, the thing is dont have lots of money so the way im seeing it is i wont have to upgrade really for quite some time to come, but then again the dual cores would just as nice for not as much $ but ill have to upgrade sooner

GTR35: Are you even paying attention? lol Your posts are very vague
As for upgrades windman, only this year have I really begun to feel a single core isn't sufficient any more, and dual cores have been about for ages. When dual cores came about, their advantage was immediately apparent. Quad cores aren't so amazing, because my PC would barely perform any different if I upgraded to one, i just can't make use of 4 cores. It's going to be a LONG time before only having 2 cores matters. By the time you're using all 4 cores, that Q6600 is going to be as outdated as a 486 is now.

Sounds like a plan
If you can make it up to an 8800GTS, you'll do FAR better.
If you can't quite achieve that on your budget, then go with an X1950XT or something like that.
Great choice of Power supply, by the way!

This much is obvious.
Posting for the sake of it can be interpreted as trolling and is against the forum rules. Unless there is at least some point to making a post, don't.
I don't want to appear as a role model for people who can get lots of posts, I try to make them useful.
@windman, good choice. Stick with the gigabyte board and a Core 2 Duo, and go with a far better graphics card, the 8600GT is pretty slow.

We all have to start somewhere. I've been here 3 and a half years, and when i first joined, I said some shocking things due to my lack of knowledge, I've gradually improved.
I believe it's 25 posts to become a Junior member.
You're welcome on the upgrade help, you won't believe how amazing the 8800GTS is compared to the 8600GT, let alone what you have now. Hope you've got a good monitor to use it on!
