Hope someone out there in the world can give me a few clues as to what I might be doing wrong. I've read all I can find on this site on burning DVds. My problem is that once I have a video edited and then burn it to a new DVD it will play for a few minutes and then freeze. Using Nero to view the DVD calls out a read disc fail. Yes I've slowed down the burn speed, changed to numerous disc manufacturers, and done everything I can find to do on this site. I've only got a few hairs left on my head to pull out. LOL. My writer is a lite-on SHW-160P6S with the latest firmware loaded.

what disks have you used? this still sounds like a media problem where your players can't read from crappy media. Have you used Made In Japan (MIJ) media? Taiyo Yuden is the best, quality and most recognized by players so you won't get reading errors and player can't play the disk! You can buy them online in supermediastore.com, meritline.com, rima.com and others. In the stores you have to read the label and make sure it's MIJ, Sony, Fuji, and others have MIJs but are hard to find in the stores. Also try Maxell MIJs.... they are quite good, too. Verbatim is the only non-MIJ that I allow near my burners. So if you haven't used MIJs yet then try that. there are plenty of reasons why certain dvds won't play in other players:

1. burning speeds: burn at 4x so there will be less writing errors (rule of thumb is to burn at half the rated speed of the disk--8X disk burn at 4x).
2. read manual for your stand alone player and use the disks that will play in your player. If your player is less than 2 yrs old then it should play the + or - R disks! I said SHOULD that's why you read the manual.
3. try booktyping your drive to DVd-ROM so it will make your +R disks more compatible to players. Read this:
http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
4. make sure that there are no finger prints or scratches on your disk that make it hard for the player to read the disk!
5. use good quality media (rule of thumb....buy the ones that are Made in Japan.) Verbatim is a top notch disk and is the only exception to this rule....some Verbatims are made in Taiwan and they are top notch!
6. and don't burn too close to the outer edge of the disk ..... which will make the disk unreadable! but using good media you will be able to burn close to the edge better than lesser quality media. Just in case I only burn no closer than 4400MB, so if you can set your programs to that, all the better!

follow these little tips of the trade and you'll have better success! good luck.

I've tried Memorex +R, Imation -R. I'll try the tutorial you suggested. I've gone and bought Maxell -R Taiwan, and I'll try that next. Unless that isn't a good choice? Hope to find something to make some headway with this. Thanks for the help.

Memorex and Imation disks are terrible! Use better media made in Japan...... check your label and make sure it says MIJ on it! or just buy Verbatim and see if all your troubles go away! Because, this does sound like a media problem! Starting off with good media stops many issues like the one you're having...... you'd be surprised how many issues are stopped by using good media to begin with.
