After making loads of backups of my DVD's on single layer DVD's I thought I'd backup the longer ones on dual layer DVD's. I boughI've successfully created ISO files using DVD shrink and Imgtool. When it comes to burning them I'm having problems. Only half the DVD burns before it comes up with an error message. It has something to do with the layer break but I can't seem to figure out how to correct it.

I've already updated the firmware for my DVD RW;
I've tried to burn at 2.4x speed

Any ideas?

The problem is probably incompatibility of the DL media you are using and your drive. The NEC-ND3520A will work well with Verbatim 2.4X/4X DL media and Ritek DL media used by many other brands. It may not work with others, no matter how good they may be. (The best results I've seen in tests came from CMC DVD+R DL 2.4X on a Plextor PX-716 drive! But very few other drives support these media. Verbatim have the most support, followed by Ritek.

Your drive may not be capable of recording inverse stack discs used for 8X DVD+R DL speeds. The ND-3500 cannot record them; the ND-3540 does a very good job, but I have no test results for the ND-3520. If the speed rating of the discs is 8X, that could also pose a problem. The fact that they fail at the transition point suggests the incompatibility because that is where the problems typically show up for DL media.

That could be the problem. The coasters I produced did manage to burn 50 and 51% of the burn before failing.

Thanks for the help.
