I converted a downloaded AVI using WIN AVI converter into DVD files. I ended up with a folder dvd_0 i opened this folder and inside are 2 more folders. AUDIO_TS this is empty & VIDEO_TS that has the files listed below.

VIDEO_TS back up file of the ifo 8.0KB

VIDEO_TS dvd movie info 8.0KB

VTS_01_0 back up file of the ifo 82.0KB

VTS_01_0 dvd movie info 82.0KB

VTS_01_1 nero show time files vob 1.60GB

Which files do i drag into the nero burning rom to allow me to make a DVD?

Run 'Nero Burning ROM' > select 'DVD' from top left drop down menu.
Select 'DVD Video' > 'New' .
The left panel shows a 'Video' folder in red.
Browse to the folder containing your video files, select all of the files inside the 'Video_TS' folder and drag them into the red folder on the left panel.
Your files will include VOB,IFO and BUP types.
Click the 'Burn' icon and select a burning speed of 4x.Click 'Burn'.

Sounds like somethings missing.
Try converting the file with vsoDivxToDVD.

http://dl.afterdawn.com/vsoDivxToDVD_setup_v0.5.2b.exe
Import the file(s) (AVI, WMV,MPEG, VOB)
Output (standard DVD file format) to a folder on the HDD.
Set 'Aspect' to 4:3 (if you have a regular tv)
Set 'Standard' to NTSC (if you live in North America)

If you want to, burn the folder with 'ImgBurn'.

http://www.imgburn.com/

Run ImgBurn
Click 'Mode' > 'Build'
Click 'Output' > 'Device'
Click 'File' > 'Browse for Folder', highlight on the 'VIDEO_TS' folder, > 'OK'
Set burning speed to 4x and click the green write button.

I downloaded VSO DivxToDVD converter and converted the AVI it appears to have converted correctly. It also had more VOB files than when i converted it with win AVI.
I opened Nero burning rom chose DVD-VIDEO and select new. I located the converted files from the right hand side. I then copied and pasted them into the VIDEO TS folder on the left.
I then proceeded to burn it to disk at a speed of 6X. The disks i am using are rated at 8X. Appeared to burn ok so I played the DVD on my pc with windows media player but the picture is a little jerky and voices are not quite in sync. Is this the quality you would expect?
Before conversion the downloaded AVI plays fine with windows media player?

No, there should not be a sync problem.
Use the PC media player to play the folder that contains the converted files.Verify that the video and sync is good.
Burn only at 4x maximum on known, trusted media (Verbatim is the most quoted brand name).
If the results are still poor, consider using ImgBurn to author the disk.

http://www.imgburn.com/

Run ImgBurn
Click 'Mode' > 'Build'
Click 'Output' > 'Device'
Click 'File' > 'Browse for Folder', highlight on the 'VIDEO_TS' folder, > 'OK'
Set burning speed to 4x and click the green write button.

Good luck.
