I have recently purschased SONY DCR-SR42 HDD CAMCORDER.
For the first time I've been trying to save captured video & pictures on dvd but no matter what I do I keep getting error message
few seconds after it starts to write.
I have no problems saving it on pc but it just won't write it.
I have used Nero & Roxio & exact issue on both.
What could I be doing wrong?

Nero and Roxio could cause complications together. Personally I would un-install Roxio and run the Roxio Zapper and make a restart.

To burn a video file to a DVD, first you may have to make them DVD compliant (Mpeg2) Type avi to dvd into the search function on this page for advise.

When burning any file type to DVD, choose a burn speed of 4X or 8X MAX, and use Verbatim brand media or TDK's at the very least.

Tks very much for your input. I wish Sony's user guide would have mentioned something. Their user guide makes it sound so easy, click here click there & your are done..........
I'll try what you've mentioned & hope it'll work.
I must have wasted at least 5 dvd's by now..............

The choice of burning software is divided. Nero or ImgBurn are my personal prefferences. Read up on the available guides here at AfterDawn and you can't go too wrong.

Having said that, post back if you find no joy. (please be specific)

All the best.

Don't know if I'm still doing anything wrong but I did download
avi2dvd without any problem but when I try to convert I can see that
video clips that I transfered from camcorder to pc is already mpeg.
They all have "MPEG extension"
For example: 20070810.mpg
I assuem this means mpeg, isn't it?

For home movie editing, I would dump Nero, without question. It is a low grade entry level program for home video editing. Ultra 7 has 3 or 4 tracks compared to 34 tracks in Roxio EMC 9.

I keep getting error message while writting.
No matter what software I'm using. Even software which comes with
the camcorder gives me error message while writting.
Could it be the blank dvd I'm using. What I'm using are Ridata DVD-R which I use to make backup of ps2 games & dvd movies & works fine.
I tried maxell DVD-RW whcih seem to work little better but it still stoped writting at 94%, with other "Ridata" it would stop before it even reached 5% progress mark.
So not sure, is it me, software or the blank dvd's I'm using.

With hlep of others I was able to figure out that hdd camcorder creates "MPEG2" which can;t be writted onto dvd unless it's converted. So I used "ConvertxtoDvd" then write which works perfectly. Tks anyways,

Maybe you can help me. I too am having problems. Sounds similar -- starts the burn process and it fails due to the dreaded "can't write end of disc-at-once" error. I burn at low speed and have the latest firmware. I use Nero Ultra Enhanced Ver. 7.x. I don't have Roxio on my PC, BUT I do have Blackberry Desktop Manager which INCLUDES Roxio for Blackberry Media Manager. Could this be causing the problem? And if so, is there a workaround short of uninstalling Blackberry Desktop Manager and zapping Roxio? I would lose my Blackberry functionality on my computer if that's the case.
