which processor is better: AMD x2 or Intel Duo?

i just would like to know which processor is better? i have heard that intel is better than AMD the same amount of times i heard AMD is better than Intel. I'm only talking about the dual core versions of each (AMD x2 and Intel Duo). Id like to know which one is better and why? like for gaming, movie watching, multitasking, etc. Whatever a processor can do.

you have to keep in mind that a high performance amd x2 such as the athlon 64 x2 6000+ is better than a mainstream intel core duo such a E4400. But overall intel core duos are better.

AXT makes a solid point. A top-end AMD X2 will kick the crap out of an entry-level Core 2 Duo.

But for the most part you should definitely go for Intel's Core 2 Duo.

Now, If you're in a tizzy and want power for cheap, you can find the AMD X2 6000+ for considerably cheaper than the similarly-performing Core 2 Duo E6600.

AMD X2 6000+ = $169.99

But bear in mind that the 6000+ has almost no overclocking headroom so you're stuck as-is unless you have water cooling or better.

But if you look in my signature you can see that the Core 2 Duo E6600 is easily overclocked to 3GHz and up with relatively modest cooling.

If you want a simple answer... Intel's Core 2 Duo is faster by a HUGE margin. And the price difference between the two I linked to is very well justified in some cases.

Stock, an X2 6000+ will compare to perhaps, an E6600, but the 6600 probably still costs less.

Core 2 Duo for the moment.
