your best option today for playing ds games is an R4/M3Simply. They are the same hardware sold by different companies. To use an R4/M3S you will also need a microsd card. I recommend buying a geniune japanese 1gb kingston microsd.
If you also want to play GBA games, you can get the EZ V 3in1 expansion pack which works with the R4/M3S to play GBA games. Its the cheapest slot 2 device but it cannot function without a compatible slot 1 device like the R4/M3S.
PS: ps3 came out in UK long time ago, stop waiting for it already!

They are the same hardware with different branding. R4 is sold by the manufacturers and M3S is sold by the M3 people.
Updates for M3S typically come a day or two after R4 updates, but if its delayed the community hacks the new R4 kernel to make it work with the M3S.
R4 and M3S are the same thing in different containers. Look around and see what kind of deals you are getting from your prefered vendors on each, and then decide.

Yep, that has everything you'll need as far as hardware goes, as long as you don't need GBA games. The R4 can also play MP3's, and videos if you convert it.
I made some posts about emulators Here, Here and Here, if you want to play some older games. :P

Nah, it's relatively safe. All you do is put stuff on the card and put it in your DS. The "stuff" runs and works or it doesn't. You don't have to mess with firmware of the DS or do anything to the DS.
If you had to flash the DS or something then there would be risk. Using and R4/M3 is really no risk.

--M3 Real with 8GB Class 6 A-Data (kickgaming.com kicks butt)
