Please Somebody Help me...
My Hard Drive got [b]Corrupted[b]... and iam not ready to format it...
coz i still have hopes that i can get the data back..
Actually my D: Drive got corrupted..
I used [i]Power Quest Partition Magic 8.0[i] for resizing my Drive..
I have a 160 GB HDD... so i made a 50/50 partition.. so each drive is of 80 GB.. Since i ran out of space in my D: Drive i thought of resizing the C: drive and merging it with D: Drive so my C: Drive becomes 20 GB and D: Drive 140 GB... but after i did that my D: Drive got corrupted and all the important data in it is lost....
Iam doing my 3rd year Univ. Degree and my project was also in the D: Drive...........
Pls somebody help me... or my whole 3 years is in vain....
By the way the Hard Drives are formatted with an NTFS File System...
Sorry for lots of full stops...
Thank You

first of all no warranties here read the whole post and consider your options.....
A)you could take it to a data recovery place. 1- VERY expensive!!! can cost upwards of $1000 usd 2-no guarentee you haven't already overwritten your data!
USE another computer for this option to down load and burn a linux disk!!!!!!!!!
B)you might be able to access the data with a linux live cd like damn small linux. 1-it would take some reading if you don't know linux. 2-it would be the cheapest route to recover your data IF it hasn't been overwritten. 3-if your not careful you could trash what you have left even further. 4- if you know someone who knows how to use linux AND you TRUST them with your 3yrs of work have them LOOK at it first to see if they can see your files or possibly recover them.
BE FOREWARNED if your data is that important consider the first option!!!!!!!!!
Using a software like partittion magic rewrites file tables. Now the computer's OS doesn't know where to look for these files. A linux OS can look at the drive and see what windows can't because it does not use these windows file tables.
the only other advice I have is backup backup backup. been there done that so I feel your pain!!!
Remember no matter how much you know someone else knows more than you do!

It should do.
I think the solution here is Back it up!
Bit late for that now though...

get knoppix ( a lunix OS), burn it to a cd and boot it from ur own PC its a live boot OS, that boots and runs from a CD so u dont need a OS installed on ur hardrive.
once u've booted into Knoppix u can mount the harddrive and copy the needed files to some other type of data storage ie. a jump drive. its the way i recover data on corrupt harddrives. theres alot of guides on how to use knoppix out there so just look around, but u should be able to recover it. gl

Salam, Opensuse is more like a desktop friendly Linux I think you would be better off with Knoppix. Try is, I hope you get your data back, for three years worth I would pay a couple of thousand if I had to.

If that's all you can get, that's all you can get I'm afraid. Usually if a data recovery program can't find the info, it doesn't exist.

Do a Google search for "Barte PE" and Ihavethepassword. They boot into Windows, both of them have great tools that might help you get your data back.

That doesn't surprise me at all, some threads I've seen on other forums are disgusting.
