Hello all,
You probably would have heard this problem many times but mine is different to any that I have seen.
I know how to burn dvds properly now but when I play them on my standalone dvd player its shorty freezez at different points from start to end. I have looked up all the guides on how to back up a dvd using DVD Shrink and Record Now Max. I also have triaed many different medias and am using the media that someone once backed up a few dvds for me used and has worked fine on my player. I can't reach my friend anymore to ask him how he did it. I have already scratched one of my dvds to death and am losing my originals fast so please help.

Hi TomiP,
You seem well educated in backing up DVD's so I will skip the obvious. I need more details about your system and your DVD writer so I am able to consider all the options.

Hi,
Ok, this is my system:
AMD 2400
524ram
Nvidia Gforce4 128mb
Nforce2 Mothereboard
I am running this on Windows XP Proffesional.
My burner is the Liteon DVDRW LDW-411s which burns both -R and +R.
I hope this is enough information and thank you for your help.

Your system looks as good as mine, so it carn't be that. The problem is either to do with buffer under runs or your DVD writer setup.
Have you got your writer set a secondary Master on your IDE cable by any chance?

Yeah I set it up as secondary master. I would also think that it may be something to do with my buffer underuns or DVD setup. Im guessing you have burnt sucessfuly. Which programs did you use?

I normaly use CloneDVD & AnyDVD which make perfect backups every time. I have also used DVD2One and DVD Shrink before with no problems.
I fogot to ask if you have the latest ASPI drivers for your drives (If not get them!) as most DVD Writer are dependent on your ASPI Layer been there for successful burns.

TomiP, I've also experienced the same freezing problems as you have. Do your movies freeze the most at the end of your movie? The biggest problem may lie within the dvd media that you're using. Other people in this website have told me this and recommended me use the Sony or TDK brands. So far, I've burned two movies with the TDK and have had smooth payback with both.

Sorry to hear that it did no good but the only option left now, is to change your DVD media. If this does not help in any way, I suggest that you replace your DVD writer unit!

I have tried many different (even expencive) media and still no luck :(...but I have read information about the Liteon on forums and many people have issues with it. Just yesterday I have gone out and replaced my Liteon with a Pioneer 106D which everyone seems to be raving about. I havent had a chance to burn anything yet but I will reply to tell yous how it went. :)

Ok heres the results :) ... IT WORKS. The new pioneer 106D worked great. I already backed up 2 movies on cheap princo meadia and it worked 100% on my standalone player. The only downside of the Pioneer compared to the Liteon I had was that Liteon can ready through copyright ALOT better...but to get around this I use DVD Decrypter and it works fine. Thanx alot for your help Koola...much appreciated.
