can anyone here tell me is there a way to repair a dvd video disk thatis giving this error? i was copying one of my dvd videos (making a copy of a copy) and i inadvert hit the eject button while in the process of making the copy i was still in the reading phase and not the writing phase. now when i try to copy i get the unrec error. i tried other videos and they copy fine. i am using nero 7. any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hi techsvcs
Check the back of the disc for any dirt, smudges, scratches etc. Try cleaning it off with something non abrasive in a non circular motion.

Have another drive you can read from? If you do try that one - some are better ripping the 'bad' spot then others.

Try ripping w/ decrypter also - link. It's a better ripper then Nero.

Not a problem techsvcs
Sounds like you may have a bad burn which could be due to the media you using. Or you might need a firmware update if one is available.
Give decrypter a go and see if it can rip it.

Maxell's are good if they are made in Japan - they're either made by Maxell themselves or Taiyo Yuden.
Ones made elsewhere like Taiwan can be hit or miss.
Good ones to use are Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.

Check and make sure the drives firmware is up to date too. You can check the manufacturers site or here - firmware page.

Burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the media too - like 16x at 8x.

klon sounds like the latest one - they usually go in a sequential order.
What's the make and model of the drive?

Yep you would just download it and unzip if needed. It's usually an exe file that you run. Have no discs in the drive and keep the power on - run the exe. Takes like a minute or 2 to flash the drive to the new version. Reboot and viola drive now has the latest firmware.
