I use Nero 6 and Nero Vision 3 for all my jobs on a Benq 1640.

How does Nero perform with hardware like the new 20x LiteOn and what do I need to know about setup besides plugging it in and having Windows 2000 Pro discover the hardware? Firmware?

The board is a MachSpeed X-caliber and the cpu is a Celeron D.

Mem is 512.

The LiteOn is sold OEM so no software that I know of with that.

The LiteOn is a Lightscribe but I have no need of that and so also
wish to know if that technology interferes with performance.

If you mean the Lite-On LH-20A1H it works well with Nero 6, at least under Windows XP. If not, as long as your system meets or exceeds the recommended system requirements, you shouldn't have a problem.

The Lightscribe technology doesn't interfere with the performance of the drive, at least I haven't experienced it. I have 3 Lightscribe drives, 2 Lite-On LH-20A1Hs and a Benq 1655.

ok thanks.

If there were no answers here, I was going to repost it on the
Yaiyo Yuden (2) thread. ;-)

I'll probably have a more specific answer for you on Thursday or Friday (I finally read the entire header of this thread). I have a Lite-On SATA burner in transit right now which I will be installing in a XP machine which already has Nero 6. Got a LITE-ON LH-20A1S SATA on its way from Newegg.

I hope you can respond to this thread and keep in mind I'm using the older Windows 2000 pro.

I intended to commence a new build with August rebates, but there doesn't seem to be much this year.

Which SATA drive from Lite-On were you looking at?

If you were looking at the LH-20A1L-05 and don't need/want the Lightscribe, the LH-20A1S OEM BK is $3.00 cheaper and free shipping also(Newegg).

I was looking at the the $36 w free shipping I guess. It was a featured item and I was looking at price only. But a second standard
one would give me more flexibility.

My understanding was the SATA ones are faster. But the big deal for me
is the plug change. I have quite a few ribbon cable spares at the
moment, but constant replugging is rough on them. The SATA redesign
seems to be more durable.

I don't think the SATA drives are necessarily faster than the IDE ones, they are rated the same. Anyway, I generally find the "sweet spot" where the media burns best anyway, which usually isn't at full speed. But I do think the SATA drives, because of the SATA connection, would have a more consistant burn because of a faster feed of data. I'm looking forward to finding out!

Don;t know about the durability as I haven't inspected the SATA connector that closely, but it does seem it should make a more secure and well seated connection than the ide.

Don't know what you mean really.

Here's a screen shot of a part of our thread. I don't see anything with little arrows on them.

Got my SATA burner, drive & controller today & installed. Here is the first burn & scan. It's a Verb 8X DL burned @ 6X with Nero 6, with disk image stored on SATA hard drive before burning.

Not too bad for a first burn if I say so myself.

I think I'm going to love this burner!

(Edited to correct bad English!)

Booktyping is sweet, just set it for your +Rs and forget it.

BTW, the graphed Verb is one of the new DL ones, rated @ 8x, not the 2.4x ones. I have burned these @ 8x but not on this drive (might give it a shot though!)
