Hi there all

Ive been playing about with this for a good couple of days now, and just cant seem to get the quality I want. A year ago I was at a sports tournament doing a filming project and had some good footage of the final. I subsequently lost the avi files that were recorded but I still have the DVD that was produced.

Im now revisiting the project and wanted to grab the files (IFO / vob) off the dvd to use in some editing. The problem is that whatever I try the quality of the rip just isnt good enough. I can grab 2 minutes worth of pure avi (which knocks up to 2 gig) but unfortunately with a 30minute half to grab that doesnt help too much :)

Is there anything I can use to get the best quality avi for editing. Ive got/used:
FlaskMpeg
AutoGK
Vidomi

Ive tried quite a few different codecs but none seem to give the desired result. Space isnt an issue, and to an extent neither is time.

What should I be using / what codec / what settings etc.

Thanks a lot in advance, its giving me a headache trying all these things out.

For editing your DVD vob's, use the demo of videoredo, (the demo can edit 30 minute clips at a time which is the size of a typical vob), when it saves it,it will do it without reencoding (meaning no lose of video quality).

Now if you want to convert it to AVI again. My recommendation is to use Dr.Divx 2.0 (which is free), using the default "home theatre quality" setting will produce a very good product (near dvd quality).
