You need CloneDVD and AnyDVD to backup a DVD9 or 5 disc. Goto the link in my signiture below, then to the Guides section. I have an animated guide for CloneDVD there which is easy to follow.
If you don't like CloneDVD, there are various guides here at AfterDawn in the Guides section lol!
Sorry question not clear I know how to backup DVD-9 dvd-r but is there a guide that will enable me to split a DVD-9 movie onto 2 dvd-r's without the extras and subs or extra sound tracks.
So I basically want to reauthor the files remove the stuff i don't want and if over 4.3GB split onto two dvd-r's are there any quides.
There are plenty that tell me how to do it keeping the menus etc but I just want the film.
You can also use DVD Toolbox. It's a free app to be used in conjunction with CopyToDVD and DVD2one.Not sure if you can use it without CopyToDVD since I already had it installed.
http://www.vso-software.fr/products_english.htm I tried it out on Gladiator and it worked ok , although a bit slow at about 55 min. Also you have no control over where it splits.
DVD Fab is a free program that offers more control but I have yet to make a working copy for my standalone...User-error on my part I suppose. You might want to check it out here.

DVDXCopy will allow you to burn the DVD to 2 DVD-Rs with no compression, but this copy will contain all extras, subtitles, and audio tracks.
For a large percentage of the DVDs out there, the movie itself will fit on one DVD5 without any compression if you remove the extras and unneeded subs/audio tracks. DVD2One or DVDShrink are perfect tools for these movies (as they do not do compression unless it is necessary).
If the movie alone IS too large for one DVD-R, it can usually be made to fit on one DVD-R with light compression (again, via DVD2One or DVDShrink).
However, if you are very opposed to using compression, and the movie in question won't fit on 1 DVD-R even after being stripped of extraneous material, you could manually select the VOBs to go on each disc, and create new IFO and BUP files for them with IFOEdit.
