MPEG-4 to DVD format or AVI

Recently I downloaded a DVD quality version of "a movie whose name is not needed here"

It came in an MPEG-4 format, and I'm trying to either convert it to AVI for easy burning, or just straight to a DVD. I normally download AVI's or MPEG 1 or 2's.

I tried using Nero, but that occupied to much of my CPU and my computer crashed. I tried using Intervideo WinDVD Creator, but MPEG-4 isn't supported. I tried converting it with WinMPG VideoConvert, but I get error messages.

What is the best way to do this?

AVS Video Converter does a good job! ConvertXToDVD is also good!~

You might be better off re-encoding the file with Gordian Knot or whatever is used for XviD files. For DVD Video, you will have to use rather high bitrate and it would waste a lot of the disc (Personally, I like to put lots of video on 1 disc).
