To backup a dual layer disc to a single layer disc (DVD-9 to a DVD-5) is entirely possible. To make a full disc movie that plays well and is acceptable, takes a little compromise, after all your squishing it by half....kind of. My advise is to backup the movie and or movie and menu's only. This way you'll get the best viewing pleasure, especially on large screen TV's.

Want to know what software to use and how to use it/them? then go HERE for all your needs.

Read the guides well and follow them word for word.....you really can't go wrong.

All the best.

I agree that the guides here are terrific.
My preference for doing a double layer to single:
Either use: AnyDVD (a purchased program that unencrypts) with
Shrink (a free programs that compresses the size) and burn with
Imgburn (free program that does the burning).
or if you want all free programs use
DVDFabHDDecrypter (a free program for unencrypting or can be purchased
with other features), Shrink, and Imgburn.
The guides at
http://webpages.charter.net/bacitup
explain these programs really well. They walk you through every
stage of setup and use.
Everybody here has there own preferences on what to use. There are
multiple ways to do what you want. I've been using these programs
from several years. The other program I like is also a free program
called FixVTS. It cleans up structure problems and gets rid of
unnecessary files that cause problems.

An adventure it is indeed! Altho, I think I keep hearing...."My precious, my precious..." somewhere in the darkness as I sit down for a second breakfast.....
