How can I backup a movie like Once upon a time in America on 2 discs totally 329 minutes into one Dvd-r? I have tried converting both discs into mpeg files using Ulead Movie factory and then trying to backup first onto my hard disc in order to finally using DVD2one to change into 1 dvd-r, however when trying to backup to hard disc ulead comes up with an error message and thats that.

I have tried to search in many ways on the net to find the answer but sofar no luck. There is plenty of converting dvd9 into 2 discs but sofar none the other way.

I need help, and appreciate it fast.

thanks a bunch

Just rip both discs to your harddrive with DVDDecrypter, putting each in a separate VIDEO_TS folder.

Next, use the newest copy of DVD2One (v1.30), which has a "join" feature that will allow you to select each VIDEO_TS folder separately and will then combine them into one seamless compilation.

Its easy to do, but the compression rate would be severe to fit a 329 min movie on 1 DVD-R...I am certain that the quality deterioration would be noticeable.

It will be More than Noticeable It will be Horrendous as DVD2Ones Compressor isn"t the Best especially Trying to Backup 5.5 hours on to a Single DVD-R...There is Only One way I know of to get 5.5 Hours of DVD Video on a Single DVD-R while keeping the Quality good enough so the Movie is at least watchable and that is to Rip Both DVD"s and Re-encode the Files to DVD useing the SIF DVD Format and with a High Quality mpeg encoder ...The Quality will Be Better than VCD and Just less than SVCD Quality or even better depending on what your referance is...And you will also have to author these DVD"s with an Authoring Program that Supports the Sif DVD Format Like DVD-Lab..This is pretty Complicated to do if you have never done it before so You might consider Just Useing 2 DVD-R"s if you don"t want to take the Time and learn how to do it...I actually Author Most Of My DVD Backups this way unless the Movie is Visually stunning like LOTR or Star Wars...If you want to learn this Method you can message me but it is Pretty Complex if you have never backed up a DVD this way....Cheers

Woah! Why is this 329mins?

Even the extended verison is listed as 238mins at www.imdb.com. If you have an extra 100 minutes or so of video, it must be from extras and special features.

I suggest that you use the method I suggested above (make sure you use variable compression) and do a 'movie only' backup. Then you can make a second disc for the special features if they are important to you.

After you have done this, if the quality is lower than you are willing to accept, either make a two disc copy or try Minion's method.
