Since I upgraded my Sony DRU-500A and NEC-1300 to the latest firmware, I keep getting a Drive in use by another application error when trying to burn an image from Nero Express.
I've done this dozens of times and can't seem to find out what program is keeping the drive open.
Any ideas what I can do? Is there a way to tell what application might be using it?
Thanks!

I sometime get this error as NVE is shit!
Just restart your computer and it should be fime. If not then press Ctrl, Alt & Del all at once and cancel any other drivers that are running which could be causeing NVE into thinking that your drive is on use when it isn't.

If you are Useing XP then I think this could be the Problem I had with My Sony DRU-500A and Nero saying My drive was allways in use, What It was is a Bug in Windows Own Cd Burning Engine , What I had to do was Disable the Windows burning engine But I can not remember how it was done but if I remember I"ll post it here...good luck

What cheezzzz means is that you RIGHT click on my computer, then go to you DVD writer, LEFT click and select PROPERTIES. Now click on recording and disable the ENABLE CD RECORDING via the tick box.
I carn't see why this should make any difference but, what the hell, give it ago :D

OR go to Administrative tools/services and disable "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service" sometimes software installs will change this to enabled. It causes havoc with some burning software.

This Microsoft page lists some of the features in XP Home, including CD burning:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/evaluation/features.asp
Quote: Saving critical information to a CD is as easy as saving to a floppy disk or hard disk. By selecting a folder of software, photos, or even music and dragging it to the CD-R device icon, you can create your own CDs.
One of my PCs has XP Home, and I've used the built in CD burning feature to troubleshoot problems with other software before, so I know it's there.

Do you live in the UK or US?
Could there be differences in the country versions?

I live in the US. Don't know about different versions for different countries. It wouldn't make any sense, but then again if you got rid of everything in Windows that doesn't make sense you could probably install it to a floppy disk. ;-)

Nero uses its own drivers, so it couldn't be that IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service, or could it?

The Problem is that the IMAPI Service is accessing the Drive and that is why Nero says that the Drive is in use By another application, This is what I was told to do by Nero Tech support when I had this Problem burning with my Sony DRU-500A and Nero, and turning off the IMAPI Service solved the Problem........

Turning of IMAPI.exe wil solve 'Drive in use by another program' problem with NERO
"How do I turn IMAPI.exe off" you say? Simple: Go to your Control Panel. If you are in "Category View", change to "Classic View" (you'll see the button in the upper left of the screen). Click on "Administrative Tools", them "Services". Scroll down to "IMAPI CD_Burning COM Service", double click on it, check to see if you are on the General Tab, and then Scroll the "Startup Type" to "Disabled", clidk on "Apply" and you're all done. No more problems with IMAPI.exe.

I've had the same issue with my NEC 1300 on Windows 98SE. Tried to re-install Nero without success.
The issue was fixed by re-installing Windows ASPI driver (not Nero).
