Hello Nero Fans:
Can you tell me where to find the BEST tool for clearing all remnants of Nero 7 Ultra Enhanced from my system? I have been running Nero since version 5.5 and have had no problems with it until I switched from XP to Vista, but this time around it has corrupted my whole system to the max. The problems started to arise shortly after I switched to Vista, but they were gradual. Initially it was simply that the home screen for Nero Vision would not disappear from the screen. When setting up to burn, I could work around it by shifting the burn setup screen in the background. However, even after closing Nero this Nero Vision screen remained in place so I couldn't work with any other program. To get rid of it, it was necessary to reboot my computer. The next anomaly was when Nero slapped it's icon on all the peer sites in both my P2P apps. I didn't like it, (even a single pixel changed on my screen without my putting it there is a no-no)but I decided to live with it. Trying to contact Nero was useless because they won't even talk to you unless you send a log file and there was no log file to send since this wasn't a burn problem. Then it became a situation where I could not run any other program while Nero was burning. The burn process would just stop as soon as opened Internet Explorer or Mail or Word, etc. I started checking it out and was directed back to the Nero site to download the Enhanced version which was supposed be the panacea to all the Nero/Vista compatibility problems. Prior to installing this patch I had to wipe my HD because Nero had taken over my Pictures file and I couldn't open it in anything but Nero Photo nor would Windows Media Player play any of my downloaded video files...it would play sound but no picture. The files would open correctly in Nero's player however. After the wipe I installed Nero 7 Ultra Enhanced and, again, it worked fine for about a month. Then I got the icon change again. Only this time it also went into my Video folder and changed the icons in there. Once again, the movies would play just fine on Nero's player but on MP 11 only sound. I figured I'd better burn the movies before the system packed up again, but they wouldn't burn. And the best part was that when I tried to save the log there was none. I ran searches galore and there was no file to be had. I have uninstalled Nero and cleaned up what remnants I could using Windows Installer Cleanup. However, even though it is supposedly gone and the icons have returned to normal none of my downloads will play the video portion. I have even gone to the extent of downloading 5 different copies of the same movie (some that even show up on my P2P provider as having been downloaded from the same source as previously.) None will play video, only sound. So I can only assume that Nero has left some insidious little bit of itself somewhere on my system. I do not ever intend to run Nero again, but I would like to clean out whatever it has left behind. To add insult to injury, Nero is more than willing to sell me their new super-duper Vista compatible upgrade if I fork over another 50 bucks. They scammed me once...shame on them. If I let them scam me again...shame on me. Besides, I don't need, or want, all the bells and whistles. I burn DVDs only. I don't use Nero for music files, I don't use Nero for photo editing, I don't edit movies, I don't put cutesy-wootsey title screens on the movies...I download 'em, (and they're all oldies, but goodies. At 67 years of age Spiderman and the latest blood and gore trash doesn't cut it for me.)I run a virus scan on 'em and then I burn 'em, with the least amount of hassle possible. So if anyone can give me a head's up on how to wipe all traces of this disaster from my system I would appreciate it and I will have no need to bother anyone on this forum again. I would like to avoid wiping my HD again, especially since I don't know if I can trust burning all my files to disk.
P.S. While searching for solutions I came across a tech review site that stated: "The software development & sales industry is the only one in existance that can put a defective product on the market, guarantee it, and then charge the purchaser for the cost of fixing the problem." How true...how true!
