I have LG GSA-4163B burner (with A106 firmware) which recognizes MediaRange DVD+R DL discs as RICOHJPN-D00-01. However burning fails with an error message.
Has somebody been more successful with that media in question - and maybe even with the same burner?

Most of us here, have found that the only DL media worth using, is Verbatim DVD+R DL.
What software are you using to burn? If using Nero, it's not the best at burning DL media. Give IMGBurn a try. It's free, and works very well with DL media. Get it here: http://www.imgburn.com
Good luck!
Why do people insist on buying cheap media (to save a few bucks), and expect it to work well? It's cheap for a reason. Most of the time, you get what you pay for! The only time you get good media real cheap, is when you find it on sale, which isn't that hard to do............

Ricoh makes excellent DL media, but I have never heard of the MediaRange brand before; so I can't comment on it. It may be a case of your drive not recognizing the M-code of the discs and being incompatible with them or not being able to write to inverse stack DL discs. Ricoh is a pioneer in the inverse stack production method, but many older DL drives do not work with these discs.

I now tried to burn the discs using a quite new HP laptop - and it did burn the discs without errors. Also they seem to work on my Pioneer DVD player.
LG writer, on the other hand, had issues even reading the discs burned by HP. However if they work on Pioneer that's enough for me.

The fact that the HP drive is quite new may mean it includes the proper write strategy for the RicohJPN DL media. In that case, your using the HP for recording is the way to go.
