It will not work if you upload it like this, this link is pointing me to your F:/ Drive which I do not have access to. If you want to email it to me, tell me and I will PM you my email.

In order to put your own images onto the forums go to
http://imageshack.us
upload the file, and take the last link "direct link to image" and paste that here.

Upload thepicture to imageshack, then it'll give you loads of links underneath when it's done. Copy the bottom one and put it here.

A regular wireless router will work, one such as the D-Link DBR-2310

the modem goes to the router and the router goes to the computer, if you have a wired computer by the modem. Don't worry, the WBR-2310 comes with very detailed directions on how to set it up. I own this one and I love it.

Keep the existing modem, and use a WAN port on a router to establish a connection. The Linksys WRT54GL is a good router.

I've no idea, I would never need to use parental control, not for anything other than practical jokes on my housemates anyway!

if the router had 100m range, would i be able to connect downstairs when the wireless router was upstairs? If not, what range would be suitable for me to connect from downstairs?

Range is an arbitrary term. It depends on the strength of the antenna you're using to pick the signal up, and what signal strength you're willing to put up with. You can browse (albeit slowly) on a zero bar signal, but you'll want at least two bars for online gaming.
Inside a normal size house, a router upstairs will give an ample signal to a computer downstairs.

my WBR-2310 is on the 1st floor and I can get a signal anywhere in the house (upstairs with excellent and the basement with the door closed with excellent) I can actually also get a partial signal from a neighbors house and connect (not fast but I can connect)
