Hi, I am trying to crop my copy of "The Rocketeer" so that it will play correctly on a wide screen TV or portable DVD player. The movie is recored onto the DVD with Letter Box and I would like re-encode it into a widescreen format an burn it back to a dvd with full menus and extras.

So, you want to crop out the black bars?

I was going to write a long guide about this, but it looks like TMPGEnc Xpress has a mode to import DVD Video from a disc. You would then go to the "Filters" tab and use a crop filter to crop out the black bars.

They probably offer a demo of TMPGEnc so check that out.

Here's the link to a guide:

It is possible to do that using TMPGEnc 2.5. In IFOEdit, you can export the GOP list. Then you can import it to TMPGEnc and crop and re-encode the video. After that, you would use IFOEdit's remux feature.

I have never did it personally, but I have created the GOP list and imported it into TMPGEnc, so it seems like it could work. Even if it doesn't, there is still a manual way of doing it with PGCEdit.

I usually don't do this type of editing cause I have no use for extra features or I just take a small selection. Also, any major editing I do involves me making a completely new DVD. It's faster for me cause I edit all the DVD commands either way.
