Anyone know how to install a ethernet controller? Is it even possible without having the install CD?

I imagine it's PCI? Just put in the card.... if XP has the drivers for it, it will install the generic version when you get back to your desktop. Or, you can download the drivers from the manufacturer's website.

the card is already in but I guess it got uninstalled when I got it cleaned or whatever..xp doesnt have the drivers for it and this may be a dumb question but could you give me examples of some manufacturers because Im not 100% what is it.

pull the card out & see what is printed on it like d-link, 3com or linksys.

Indeed. There may be some form of identification on it. If it's not the manufacturer of the card (such as D-Link, Belkin etc.) it might be the maker of the chipset (such as Realtek). if it is, you can get drivers from Realtek.

Sure. Keep us posted. If you can't find any suitable drivers, give us the serial numbers and we'll have a look. Don't post your MAC address though, for security reasons.

look for something like DFE-530TX near the top of the card as that is the model # of the card.

well..if you read the posts above you can figure it out..i went to the d-link site and downloaded the files from there and went to my computer that needed the files and installed them.

not me you have to explain to but to other members who might get into same problem as you did. i deal with those issues all the time with customers' computers so i know how to resolve it.
