Hi
I'm looking for a simple to use program that will convert an .avi file to a DVD format that can be then viewed on an older (4 to 5 years) DVD player. Not looking for anything flashy, anything that I have to pay for and I just want layman's terms (I'll never understand a page of instructions about!).
Can anyone recommened the software?
Thanks

Burn dvd with 'ImgBurn'

Run ImgBurn
Click 'Mode' > 'Build'
Click 'Output' > 'Device'
Click 'File' > 'Browse for Folder', highlight on the 'VIDEO_TS' folder, > 'OK'
Set burning speed to 4x and click the green write button.
Use quality disks (Verbatim brand).

VSO ConvertXtoDVD for payware to avoid the watermark. Excellent quality too and very easy. I haven't used DVD Flick but understand it's very good too. So is DIVXtoDVD 5.2, it is getting dated though.

the free version of VSO 0.5.2.99 does not leave a watermark after it has converted your file, that is why i use it.

Does using Imgburn allow a higher playback rate on DVD players? I had this problem before where some DVDs would work on one player and not on another. Or is it the type of disc -R +R, or the manufacturer?

DVD players generally list the type (DVD-R DVD+R DVD/RW, etc) that are compatible.
Burning quality media at moderate speed will offer the best chance of success.
Consistent quality (purchased over the counter) is seen in Verbatim and Maxell.

The program you use to burn with only sends data to the burner. One really shouldn't be any "better" than the other, the problem is, as attar stated, the quality of the media and compatability as well as firmware that is capable of handling the media and data combination as well as the integrity of the source data. These things weight more heavily on the quality/compatibility of the end result than the program that you use.
