For the past 6 months, I've been getting sporadic burn failures. Prior to this, I seldom had any failures. I am using DVD Shrink with Nero 6 ultra Edition. I use RipIt4Me to decrypt.

I have tried other decrpt programs from Slyfox to DVD Fab and still get sporadic burn failures.

I have a P4 3.0GHZ, with 3 Gigs of memory, running Direct X - 9.0c with a Radeon X600 256 graphics card and SB Audigy 2 ZSAudio card. My burner is a NEC DVD plus minusRW.

I restarted my PC and the burn worked. Sometimes it takes 2 attempts before it will work.

I use Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's as the medium and have used them for the past couple of years.

In this case I was making a back up copy of "Borat". This is the burn failure info on this back up:

Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Hit the edit pencil on the upper right corner of your post and delete your serial # that starts with 1A23

There are firmware updates for your burner...
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces

Have you been using the exact same Taiyos the last few years or have you purchased a new pack of that name brand lately?

Deadrum33 brought up a good point. You're using TYG03. Are those the same as used in the past? With newer media, firmware can become an issue. The intermittent burning looks more like a driver interference or hardware issue. I'm not the greatest at reading Nero logs, but here is where the problems are stated.

3:50:40 PM #26 SCSI -1093 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 1441
SCSI Exec, HA 0, TA 1, LUN 0, buffer 0x00B90000
Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR)
HA-Status 0x00 (0x00, OK)
TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND)
Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
Sense Code: 0x02
Sense Qual: 0x00
CDB Data: 0x2A 0x00 0x00 0x0A 0xF6 0xC0 0x00 0x00 0x20 0x00 0x00 0x00
Sense Data: 0x70 0x00 0x03 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x0A
0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x02 0x00

Both SCSI and Medium error are listed. This appears to be a Nero error and not Shrink related. You'd be better off in the Nero forum.

Not saying it's the problem but I'd check the cables, make sure the optical head is clean and firmware is up to date, and check the media, even if it is TY. Just general housekeeping.

Thanks deadrum33. I deleted the serial #. Appreciate the response.
I have not updated firmware on my burner since I purchased the PC. I will go ahead and do that. Thanks for the link. I buy my Taiyo Yudens from Supermediastore and have been using the same ones for years - TYG03's - as far as I remember.

I will update the firmware first and see if that corrects the issues. If not I will address each of the other suggestions one at a time.

Thanks to PAcman777 for your quick response and suggestions.

Thanks ddp.

You're welcome. Just general maintenance items though. It may be something else. Now that ddp put the thread in the Nero section, maybe you can get more specialized suggestions. I do remember that some of the Nero 6 versions were bug ridden. I've not used 6 in so long, I've forgotten which they were.

Shortly we're to have Nero 8. If anything like 7, it should be a big update instead of a new version they want paid for.

Good luck with the problem. By the way, have you tried another burner program to see if the problem is limited to Nero? CopyToDVD from VSO and the burner ware in DVD Decrypter are both supported in DVD Shrink. VSO has a trial, the CopyToDVD is retail. DVD Decrypter is free and the updated burner ware version is ImgBurn. You can burn manually with ImgBurn if you can't find the Shrink.exe file to update for it. Plenty of options to see if the problem is Nero or something else.

I just finished a new backup burn of a new movie and it worked fine the first time. Thanks to all for your suggestions. I believe upgrading the firmware on my burner did the trick.

Appreciate all the help.
