I would just build one myself. You can get help on the official pc building thread.

As far as I know the score is out of 6.
Go to 'the ultimate dream computer' thread to get some ideas.

Yeah build your own, You get ripped off badly buying pre-made computers and from what I've read about alienware they are way overpriced. As for a perfect computer, thats really a matter of opinion, because some setups will be better at certain tasks than others will and vice-versa.(gaming, video encoding and so on)
Any way, good luck and have fun.

Peace all

i know that alienware is overpriced but not many people make their own laptops. but you are correct one computer will out perform another depending what tasks they were made to do

I bought a prebuilt computer with 2GB RAM and a Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33GHz, i also got a really nice widescreen monitor. The only thing which i don't like about this computer is my graphics card. 7350 LE. So if i just upgrade to the 8800 GTS (or anything in the mid-8800) it'll be a really good computer, not just for gaming, but for everything.

BTW, is the 7350 LE considered crappy just because it's old, or even when it came out it was considered terrible?

I wonder if there's a machine in this world that can run... say, Oblivion or BioShock, at max resolution, with all settings turned on, and get 60 FPS.

I don't think there's a machine like that. xD

@OmriSama
I've just about the same set up you do, but I do have the 8800gts,
Trust me you will not regret getting a 8800gts, I play fear alot and it runs like a dream. fast and smooth.
I haven't done any overclocking yet with the e6550, but plan on doing soon, Just gotta learn some more about it first.
(don't wanna fry anything)

Hate to break it to you, but as I said, the 7350LE isn't old, it was just slow when it came out. With regard to the other question, it all depends what resolution your screen is. If you're using a standard size monitor with a resolution of 1280x1024 or 1440x900, then there are plenty of PCs out there that could max out FEAR and Bioshock, even if not quite 60fps all the time. Bioshock didn't run that badly on my PC. I turned all the settings to max and ran it at 1920x1200 and got around 40fps. AT 2560x1600 (the res I like to play at) I was getting maybe 20fps, so not too great.
FEAR:extraction point has been an eye opener, not only is it far harder than the original game, but a lot more demanding. Unlike Bioshock, FEAR supports Anti-Aliasing, so that will weaken the frame rates, but with only trilinear filtering and softshadows off, I could only get an average of around 12fps at max. The section at the start with the crashed helicopter I only got 6fps, unplayable to say the least. I also note that the game used my full 2GB of memory with all the settings turned up! I now run it at medium with trilinear filtering and average around 18fps, some sections it drops to about 12. The real kicker? This is only 2048x1536, not even my full screen resolution!

Anything below 30 FPS = unplayable.

I wonder how 2 8800 ultras SLI'd will run F.E.A.R...

not really, practice has meant I can play games at 15fps or above, I've done that so basically in extreme parts of games (such as the last rocket robot in FEAR, where the frame rate is half what it usually is in combat scenes) I can still play them.
As far as I can tell, SLI works quite well for fear, so i wouldn't be surprised if at 1680x1050 the frame rate would be a minimum of 50fps at all settings maxed.

Yeah i'm playing it now, it's hard! (at least on extreme difficulty anyway). It also eats system resources, as I mentioned earlier.

well it's shorter than the original game (I haven't finished it yet, my friend has) but it's certainly challenging. If you enjoyed the original but are looking for something more difficult, go for it. Just bear in mind it has higher system requirements than the previous game, that comes from experience, not the box.

I got F.E.A.R PS3.

BTW, somebody said that if i want to play Crysis with all settings turned on, i have to get an 8800 GTX. But other people are saying that the game runs fine with a 7900. Is it because of DirectX 10 for the GTX and DirectX9 for the 7900?

It depends on the resolution you play at. You could probably run it at max at 1280x800 with a 7950GT or X1950 Pro, but for higher resolutions like 1680x1050, you'd want an 8800GTX.

Ok.

This sucks. I have to run BioShock at min settings at the lowest resolution (which is not wide screen, since i have a wide screen monitor)

that's the 7350 for you, it won't be great in Bioshock. If you get something like an X1950 Pro you could run it at 1680x1050 or 1920x1200 fine.

My PC is a perfect 6 expect for my HDD and video card, which gets like a 5.7. I built mine for about 500 USD.
