hope I can get some info from you guys. I have protools and record voice from home studio. my version of protools records in wav files (44.1kHz), and I convert them to mp3 to send to clients. I've been doing it for a number of years, but lately studios have been asking for 192K...I'm not even sure what that means. I just always used the setting for converting to mp3s in protools. so, when I tried to change it to 192kHz, I get msg that the mp3 codec doesn't support 192K...there are several levels listed, and the highest I can get it to convert to is 44.8kHz. today I imported the wav file into iTunes and converted it to mp3 at 192 that way. but I'm confused. is my protools version too old? (6.4) are higher versions of mp3s better quality for studios? where do I get a mp3 codec (and what does that mean?!!) that will convert at higher quality? thanks...sorry to appear so stoooopid!

The 192 number refers to the bitrate.Most programs which encode to mp3 will let you choose the bitrate in the options or preferences setup.If you need a free program to do this with see the link below.When the trial period expires the program will still do anything you need...

thanks! I looked at it - afraid to download until I know what I'm doing! so, I would just record in my Protools, save as wav file. then import into the 'switch' and convert? extra step...but if necessary, great! should I try and see? I don't want to screw up anything!

See if Protools has an option to change the bitrate on the mp3 output.
