i have a hp pavillon lap top 6 months old hp tells me my hard drive is fryed they are sending me a new one but i have alot of inmortant files i need to save the tech said i could save them but woulnt tell me how anyboby have a clue how this could be done

Some data recovery software or using a data recovery service. The former probably won't work in your case, the latter usually does but it's expensive, you need to be really sure you want the files back. You could try replacing the circuit board manually, but only if you know what you're doing and where to get one from.

why is it so damn expensive shouldnt the price be valued on whats on the drive its pictures and music may be 3 gigs of it not much really

Nope, the price is because data recovery requires very highly skilled personnel (far higher than the people who manufacture, offer tech support or market the drives), and specialist laboratories (zero dust environments, those all-white pressure sensitive rooms where everybody wears funny clothing). Those are the only places where you can take a hard disk apart and not ruin it permanently by doing so.

it's probably kind of obvious at this point, but the best advice is to keep a backup hard drive at all times. chances of both drive going dead at the same time are far less than just one of them failing.
