let me see if I understand, you want two different movies, with separate menus on the same dvd-r?

I'm going to say no. I have never heard of a program that will create what you want to do. Now, I have to ask... why? If you could do this, the compression would be so great that the movie quality would be terrible. It's hard enough sometimes to get a single movie onto a dvd-r without losing to much quality. Wouldn't it be simpler to just create one disc for each movie?

i have backed up many movies using dvdshrink re-author, to fit 2 movies and the quality is good, but i found this program ripit4me here i ripped just the movie and the menu so i was wondering if i could get 2 movies on 1 dvd-r with menu it would look better.

if not no problem :)

thanks anyway

i wouldn't advise doing it

DVD-5 blanks runs about 24 cents each so i think it wouldn't be a big deal put each movie on a separate DVD

It is possible. The pay solution would be DVD Remake Pro. Not sure how well it works for doing this, but it has a feature to merge 2 discs.

The free solution would be PGCEdit. However, you will need to do some manual editing and also create a menu (with another software) to navigate between movies. You also have to make a button that will take you from a root menus back to the title menu just in case you want to go to a different movie.

Consider that when doing this and putting 2 movies on a DVD5, if they need compression, it might look pretty bad (much worse than VHS). If the movies already fit on 1 disc without needing compression, then what you want is the best solution.

Also, if by DVD-R you actually meant on a dual layer DVD, then you will have no problem, just you will have to remove the extras on the discs or highly compress those.

you can merge movies, but not create menus the way they want to. eg: select between "Knocked up" and "Next" then have original menus for each movie after you make the first selectection. At least I'm pretty sure it won't work. Whatever, I still can't see the logic behind it.

First, I will say that I agree with you about not seeing the logic behind it. It makes some sense with a DVD DL, but I would personally save those for Episodes rather than 2 movies cause splitting episodes into 2 discs is tricky if you want it to look like it was originally meant to be on 2 discs.

You can however, merge movies and have the original menus with a movie selection menu as well.

You need to create a simple menu to select between the two movies yourself (using an authoring software or by using a menu like this from a third DVD). It's not a 1-click type process though. You have to edit the commands yourself to make sure that the DVD works fine.

What I do sometimes is I combine special features from 2 discs with the original menus. Like your example of Knocked up & Next, I would create a menu that has "Next Special Features" & "Knocked Up Special features" buttons. Each button would take you to the original menu of the movie you selected, but I would remove the button to play the movie or replace the PGC with something like "Movie is on a different disc" still PGC.

You are essentially re-authoring the DVD, but adding an extra menu. I wrote a guide about it way back, but I'm sure that's long expired.

Give it a try with PGCEdit. Create a new DVD. Then import the rip of Next. After that, import the Rip of Knocked up. YOu will have 2 VTS with 2 Titles.

Now, right click on PGC 1 of Next and import the menu from Next. You will have the original menu from Next. Do the same for Knocked Up.

Then, Right click on the First Play PGC and import the "Disc 1" "Disc 2" Menu. You will have to create this menu yourself using another program like DVDLab Pro, DVDMaestro, etc... You can create 1 generic menu and use it over and over again for all your merge projects.

Finally, you will have to make the DVD run correctly. This either means you go through every command and makes sure nothing gets screwed up, or Delete all commands in the project and write new ones. I like writing new ones more. Also, you have to make sure the menu button commands are fine. This final step is the most time consuming, but if you know what you are doing (done it enough times) it will be less than 10 minutes.

DvdReMake Pro is perfect for this occasion. It can merge up to 4 discs while retaining original menus and navigation for each disc. At First Play, you will see the default disk selection menu for you to choose which disc to play. To go back to this menu and choose another movie, just press Title menu on your remote.

well I stand corrected. Thanks for the info. It's seems like an awful lot of work to save $.25 or less.

LOL!! Yeah, that's true. I do it on rare occasion, but only when there is no need for encoding.
