CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+
RAM: 1 gig
Hardware: Sony SL burner crossflashed to LiteOn SOHW-832S
Media: For SL burning I use TY DVD+R; For DL burning I use Verbatim DVD+R.
Software: Fix VTS, AnyDVD, CloneDVD2 for burning (burned at slow 2x speed).
Problem: My SL burns are fine. With almost all of my DL burns I am getting momentary freezes. From what I can tell, this mostly (perhaps exclusively) seems to be occurring on the second layer (return path?) towards the end of the movie.
I posted this problem awhile back & the suggestion was to use Fix VTS. I have since been using Fix VTS, but the problem still persists.
I am using top quality media, burning at a slow speed with well recognized software. Could this possibly be a hardware problem? If so, I will replace the burner (which is a few years old, anyway).
I cannot afford the very top quality burner. What brand suggestions for a good quality DL burner?
The SOHW-832S was Lite-on's first DL drive. Like most DL drives, it stumbled at the layer break for DL media. I suspect the problem is with the old drive. However, there are many DVD players that still stumble on the layer break even with excellent recordings on DL discs. The first step is to replace (or confine to DVD-ROM duty) the SOHW-832S drive and move up to a newer Lite-on, Pioneer, or Plextor drive. (The Optiarc AD-7170AD is having more teething problems than usual. I'd skip it for now.)
