****SVCD to VCD**** TMPGEnc error

Hi, i could really use some help here. I've been reading almost anything i can get my hands on on this site but i cant find the solution for my problem. Since i've burned 3-4 svcd's i figured my dvd player doesnt allow me to play svcd's and only plays vcd's. So, i wanted to convert my svcd to vcd(which is going to suck because of the shitty quality i gotta live with).
I tried this: http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/convert_svcd_to_vcd.cfm , all went well until i got to the TMPGEnc problem. "Encode using TMPGEnc's Project Wizard" when i picked NTSC and clicked next, i now had to pick my "video file". And when i did, an error came up saying "C://**/*/**/movie.mpg" can not open, or unsupported. So, i tried looking for a solution and i came upon this link. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/40101 , i tried "1. AVI file cannot be opened or unsupported." I tried all 3 of the solutions and they all failed. But i got a little confused with the virtualDUB part. I wasnt sure how to do that. I wasnt even able to load my MPG file in their, it said "doesnt support MPEG2" or something like that, even thou its MPEG1, so i dont know im confused. It might work if someone would explain it to me more briefly. Other than that, i leave it upto whoever reads this and can help me out with this. All i want to do is convert my SVCD(MPEG2) to VCD(MPEG1). Since my crappy dvd player doesnt like SVCD's(i know this because i burned 3 different ways of burning SVCD's and they all failed).

Hello!
As far as I know, TMPEG does not contain decoders. It uses the codecs, that U have installed.
Can U play the mpeg1 file with WMP?
If not, try to install Ace mega codec pack, and try again.

hi, yah it plays perfectly fine in WMP or divx. But, just that little problem. I'll try out what you said, see if it works. thx

The Best way to Go from SVCD to VCD with TMPGEnc is to use DVD2AVI to Frameserve the SVCD to TMPGEnc...This way works best Because TMPGEnc was made to Accept D2V frame server files from DVD2AVI and this way is faster than useing third Party Mpeg2 decoders to decode the Mpeg2 file for TMPGEnc....
#1)First Download "DVD2AVI 1.76" and copy and Paste the "DVD2AVI.vfp" file from the DVD2AVI folder into the TMPGEnc Install folder...
#2)Run DVD2AVI and Load your SVCD file into it, Then go to "File" to "Save Project" and give the File a name and save it...
#3) Now After DVD2AVI does it"s Thing it will leave you with a D2V file and a Mpa audio file, Now you Run TMPGEnc and Load the D2V file in for the Video Source and if you want to you can Load the Mpa file as the audio source But there is no need to re-encode the audio because it is allready in the correct format for VCD, You can just encode the D2V file to a m1p VCD Video file and then use Tmpgenc"s "Simple Multiplex" to Mux the audio and Video together..If that is to Confuseing then Just encode the D2V file with the Mpa file to VCD with TMPGEnc then Burn to CD-R as a VCD....Finnished Cheers

Even after I ran DVD2AVI TMPG still says can not open, or unsupported when I try either encoding the D2V or mpeg(SVCD) file.

The newest TMPGEnc DOES support mpeg-2. I wrote that guide and wouldn't have if it didnt work. Have you installed the newest TMPGEnc??

Chronz, download winDVD, and try to watch the MPG in yr computer, and u'll see if it's broken or isnt.
Is too posible that its broken.

hi, im having the same problem as described by chronz. the mpeg created by VCD easy plays fine using windvd, but when i try selecting it in TMPGEnc, i get the "can not support" error.
ideas?

Problem found, the CRI Sofdec MPEG Decoder didnt seem to be in the FREE version I got so hang on while I try find everyone an alternative. TMPGEnc Plus has absolutely no trouble with the files!

St00pid Pegasys Inc!! You will have to get TMPGEnc Plus to use this, You can get a trial of TMPGEnc Plus easily, just search for it on google, sorry about that, I didnt think they were that greedy with it!

OK, easy solution found to this problem. Just download the M2v plugin for TMPGEnc from here...

Now all you have to do is open that file and extract ALL the files in it to the same directory as you have TMPGEnc in. Then run the file m2vconf.exe and close it again. Now you should be able to open the MPEG-2 files. I would also recommend that you use tooLame and SSRC as the guide suggests for the audio.
Sorry about that mix up. I'll update the guide to it as soon as possible. Thnx for pointing it out!

DVD2AVI is still Faster than any Third Party Mpeg2 decoder, By up to 25% in some cases as I have extensively tested this ....Cheers

No doubt ye but I hadnt tested the Free TMPGEnc with the guide as the newest TMPGEnc Plus has its built in decoder!

Well I know that DVD2AVI is at least 10% faster than the new CRI Softdec Decoder as I did Beta testing for this Decoder for TMPGEnc Pluss before it was released to the Public(I worked Part time For Tmpgenc/Pegasus Tech support and we also tested InterVideo and Ligos decoders but the Ligos ones totally stunk and the Programers had Problems Intergateing the Intervideo decoders which were written in C+ with TMPGEnc which was written in Delphi) It turned out the CRI Decoders worked the best out of the Ones tested but still weren"t faster than DVD2AVI on Yuv Decodeing mode......Cheers

The whole point of the guide is to be easy, and u should know from reading the forum, newbies, are easily confused! I mean the dvd to VCD guide here is out of date but still uses DVD2AVI as a frameserver and people still post questions on it!

#3 We see 'TMPGEnc' and don't know/care if it is Plus or standard :)
#4 Now that it worked, when I try and burn it with Nero Burning ROM it tells me that it is an invalid stream encoding for [S]VCD

Usually why Nero says that the stream in invalid is because you have encoded the File as a Plain Mpeg1/2 file instead of a "VCD/SVCD file , Or you used the TMPGEnc Merge & Cut to edit your File and chose the wrong setting from the drop down menu....
