I have tried searching and found lots of information, my question is when I look at my log, I'm not sure what to look at I have seen several unfinished logs but not any completed ones....
if anyone can help me I'd sure appreciate it...attached is my log.

Here's a couple of suggestions:
Recorder: <SONY DVD RW DRU-800A> Version: KY01
That's your dvd burner - external drive connected to a usb 2.0 port.
The burner can use a firmware update - the latest is KY06.
DiskPeripheral : TOSHIBA MK6021GAS atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
Turn DMA back on for your hard drive - guide
Disc Manufacturer: MBI01R - WG 20
The disc are made by Moser Bauer - not the greatest so if the firmware up date doesn't do the trick switch your media to some better stuff like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Naxell.

Binkie, thanks for the quick response, but...the Toshba is just a CD R/W, (I wasnt sure if it was a DVD read write so I got another firmware update for it...may be a conflict...
I bought the Sony off ebay...it's actually is a DRX-530UL, not the 800A version, I tried to set the correct firmware to the drive but no go...
I do understand the media is not the best. been trying to locate some good ones..
thoughts?

The firmware for the toshiba dvd-rom shouldn't conflict. So you're good there.
The other Toshiba under Scsi-Device-Map is the hard disk drive.
That one is in PIO mode.
The drive is showing in the log as the DRU-800A -what happens when you try and update the firmware to KY06?
The firmware for the DRX-530UL is 2.1G.
Check Nero InfoTool on what this drive supports in burning speeds - the 800A goes to 16x while the 530UL goes to 8x.
Where are you located - we might be able to help you locate where to buy some decent media.

Binkie, if you read this....thanks, I made no changes to the firmware, even though my recorder is the DRX-530UL and the firmware states it's a 800XX. I did have to at least have the xp service pack1...still received errors with current media.
went to BestBuy and found some Verbatim meida (DVD+r), works like a charm...thank you for all your help..
