Whats your budget? A 2900XT 1GB by Diamond Viper is better than the 8800GTS 640mb, so it will probably be your best bet.

His budget is $300 to $400 dollars. The 1GB HD2900XT does not fall into that range.

Then he can get the 512mb version, its $390 on newegg. If he can expand his budget a little he can double his vram.

I believe so... Its in between a 8800GTS 640mb and a 8800GTX.

The 1GB version of the 2900 is around the 8800GTX

Will my future PC run Bioshock nicely?

Mobo ASUS M2N-SLI DELUXE
2x Kingston 1 GB DDR2 667 mhz
Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT 512 MB DDR3 PCI-E
Power Source OCZ StealthXStream 600W ATX
HD 320GB SeaGate SATA
Processor AM2 Athlon 64 X2 5200 Dual Core

so will Bioshock run nicely on my PC?

yeah, thats a pretty kickass computer! But, you will not be able to use the dx10 features as you dont have vista or a dx10 card. But judging by that, bioshock should run pretty well!

You guys are so lucky to have good videocards. Unlike my 7350 LE...

Maybe you should try getting a 320 mb 8800 GTS. I heard it runs many games ''like a dream''

Only old games. 320MB isn't enough memory for a graphics card any more.
You really need 512MB or above, which is why I recommend cards like the X1950 Pro and 7950GT above the 8800GTS 320MB. Quake 4 won't run properly for me on Ultra detail because I only have 512MB of texture memory, the game needs 550-600 on ultra! The lower 8800GTS would have no chance.
The HD2900XT is getting cheap, but it runs hot and is very noisy, certainly moreso than the 8800GTX. That's something worth bearing in mind.
The upside, however is that any of the 8800s, and now the HD2900 series can be fitted with Thermalright's HR-03 cooler. If you want a cool and quiet graphics card, that is the answer, without question. It lowered my X1900XT's temps by 30C at load, and I don't even have a fan on it!
of course this all depends on whether you're willing to replace your graphics card's cooler, it's not much different to replacing a CPU cooler in terms of skill, but unlike changing a CPU cooler, it will void your warranty.

They didn't use to be, but they're cheaper now and you can get some good deals out of them. Besides, the HD2900XT 1GB is in some ways the new performance champion, so they can't be that bad!

i agree, the 2900XT 1GB version competes with the 8800GTX, and since it has 1GB of vram, then large maps and textures wont be a problem! the drivers are said to be better for the 2900XT now, not to sure about ati's other cards. I use omegas, which work great for my ati card.
